On Monday, June 17, 2014, Florida became the 22nd state in the nation — not counting the District of Columbia, which is also on board — to pass medical marijuana legislation; Florida is now the proud parent of Senate Bills 1030 and 1700, the Compassionate Medical Cannabis Act of 2014. Make no mistake, this law is specifically tailored for Charlotte’s Web, a particular strain of cannabis that has extremely low THC levels, that being the active ingredient that would intoxicate the user. True medical marijuana, the likes of which one would find in California, Colorado and Washington, will not be addressed until November, but that initiative is largely anticipated to pass without too much noise.
